Who we are:
We are a diverse group of women interested in exceptional books and engaging conversation. We undertake all different genres of writing and love to thoughtfully critique what we’ve read. We thoroughly enjoy each other's company (usually with a nice hot beverage in hand!) as we sift through various works. The Village Church of Gurnee sponsors us and many of us attend church there. We are open to newcomers!
What we do:
We each suggest books that we think would be good for discussion and read them on our own, coming together later to discuss them. We believe that books open doors to ideas about self, faith and the world around us. We strive to understand how what we read impacts our lifestyles, worldviews and our Christian faith. We respect all viewpoints and encourage each other to share openly. Ultimately we hold Scripture as our final authority, but understand that many things in life are not black and white issues. By navigating through the writings of many authors, we seek to grow in faith and our likeness to Christ. We also welcome those who are unsure about the Christian faith and value their contribution to our discussions.
How we do it:
Usually we meet once per month (generally the 3rd Thursday, 7-8:30pm) and suggest that all attendees read the book prior to the discussion (that’s not a prerequisite though!). We do not require ‘membership’ and you can attend as often or as infrequently as your schedule permits. We each have the opportunity to suggest books, facilitate the discussion and host the meeting. We come under the leadership of the Village Church of Gurnee and follow their guidance regarding difficult or controversial works, but are not limited to Christian authors. Heather Hart currently serves as our liaison with the Women’s Ministry.
