ALPHA
What is Alpha?
Alpha is an opportunity to explore the meaning of life in a relaxed, friendly setting in someone’s home. The Alpha course meets once per week for ten weeks. In each session (which typically lasts 2 hours), people enjoy great food, laughter and learning in a fun and friendly atmosphere where no question about life or God is seen as too simple or too hostile—questions like Why am I here? Where did I come from? Where am I going?
What happens at Alpha?
Each gathering begins with a meal and a chance to get to know the others in the group. Then there is a short talk which looks at a different aspect of the Christian faith each week. This is followed by a time of discussion where everyone in the group is welcome to contribute their opinion and ask questions. Some of the topics covered include: (bullets?)Who is Jesus? Why did Jesus die? How can we have faith? How does God guide us? Why and how should I pray? Why and how should I read the Bible? The experience includes a fun weekend getaway together toward the end of the course.
Who is Alpha for?
Alpha is for anyone…anyone who thinks there may be more to life than meets the eye. People attend from all backgrounds, religions and viewpoints. Many participants have never been to church. Others may attend church occasionally but feel they have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith. Some want to find a relationship with God that really changes their lives. Others come for the close, long-lasting relationships that are built during the Alpha course. Everyone is welcome!
When is Alpha offered?
VCG’s next Alpha session will be offered in February 2010. We hope you will join us! For more information, please contact Tom Rosko at (847) 672-5896.
